Anjappar Chetinad Restaurant
It is very rare to find a person with out knowing Anjappar Chetinad Restaurant in Chennai. Anjappar, a man from the district now known as Karaikudi, started a mess in Royappettah in the 1960s, he introduced a special brand of cooking from Nattarasankottai. The taste of the new cuisine was well appreciated and satisfied diners soon spread its name throughout the city. Business boomed at the mess and Anjappar soon opened the restaurant that bears his name. For many years it was a landmark in Royapettah, until - when the old building that housed it was to be demolished to make way for a new construction - it was shifted to Nungambakkam. Long before then, Chettinad preparations had become permanent features on the menus of every other restaurant, and the cuisine had become the very flavour of the city.
I have visited almost all its branches in chennai and i love dining there. It is usually a bit crowdy but then it is worth waiting. When i start this post i thought of listing all its branches in Chennai but i thing the list is huge. They also have their branches in Coimbatore in TamilNadu, Bangalore, Pondichery, Dubai, Srilanka, Abudhabi, Malaysia, Singapore, Canada.
You have a wide range of dishes available in the Online menu. You can have the list aside while you make the order through phone.
Good quality food, reasonable price, large space to dine, fast service make it more magnetic.
Chetinad & Chetinad Food
Deep in the south of India's southernmost state, Tamil Nadu, the Land of the Tamils, is Chettinad, the land of the Nattukottai Chettiars, which includes Karaikudi and 74 other villages. Karaikudi is its chief town. Karaikudi is about 425km from Madras (chennai), the capital of Tamil Nadu and the gateway to South India.
The land chetinad holds the pride of making the following Legends Dr Alagappa Chettiar,P. Chidambaram, Kaviarasar Kannadasan , Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar
Chettinad food is essentially spicy, with a standard full meal consisting of cooked dhal, eggplantsambar, ghee for flavouring rice, and sweet meats like payasam and paal paniyaram. The classical "kara kozhambu" is widely regarded as the best tasting south Indian sambar.
No wonder chetinad food became famous across continents.
I love chetinad food even i am not from that region. Even we have a lot of chetinad hotels in chennai Anjappar is my choice. They have their branches all across chennai. I will make a post about Anjappar separately as it is my favorite restaurant here.

Big Players not fit for 20 -20 Cricket?
Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly all left out of DLFA IPL even before semis.
We have to accept the truth that the younger generations are more fit for the 20-20 class cricket.
Australians are doing good in all forms of cricket. I don't find any player from other county excels in this IPL except a few.
The good think is that most of the Indian youngsters have done a tremendous work. They are very enthusiastic ,energetic. Guys like Yuvraj, Sehwag, Gambir, Yosuf Pathan, are doing a wonderful job.As a team Rajasthan Royals, and Kings XI punjab are going well.
Meanwhile the selected omitted all senior players for the Asia cup Squad. I am very happy that they showered some light on Yosuf pathan this time.
Rajasthan Royals - Good Leader + Strong Young team
Kings XI Punjab - Good Team + Strict Yuvi
Deccan Chargers - Strong team only in Papers
Chennai Super Kings - Struggling with out Australians
Bangalore Royal Challengers - Didn't work out as expected
Delhi Daredevils - Challenging Team + Sehwag, Gambir
Kolkata Knight Riders - Ganguly + Ganguly
Mumbai Indians - Good Team + Bad Luck

The God of Cricket - Sachin Tendulkar
"Destined to be a great" -Barry Richards.
"He is 99.5 percent perfect. I'd pay to see him" - Viv Richards.
"Don't bowl him bad balls, he hits the good ones for fours" - Michael Kasprowicz.
"It's scary, where the hell do we bowl to him" -Allan Border.
"There is no shame being beaten by such a great player. We didn't lose to
Team India. We Lost to Sachin Tendulkar" -Steve Waugh.
"If I've to bowl to Sachin, I'll bowl with my helmet on. He hits the ball so hard" - Dennis Lillee.
"I'd like to see him go out and bat one day with a stump. I tell you he'd do okay" -Greg Chappell.
"Cricketers like Sachin come once in a lifetime and I am privileged he played in my time" - Wasim Akram.
"The pressure on me is nothing as compared to Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin,
like God, must never fail. The crowd always expects him to succeed and it
is too much pressure on him" -Mark Waugh.
"Everybody gets 15 minutes of fame. But if there's one person I've admired
over a 15-year of period, it's definitely Sachin." - Brain Lara
"I'll be going to bed having nightmares of Sachin just running down the
wicket and belting me back over the head for six. He was unstoppable. I
don't think anyone, apart from Don Bradman, is in the same class as Sachin
Tendulkar. He is just an amazing player" -Shane Warne.
"I saw him playing on television and was struck by his technique, so I
asked my wife to come look at him. Now I never saw myself play, but I feel
that this player is playing much the same as I used to play, and she
looked at him on Television and said yes, there is a similarity between
the two... his compactness, technique, stroke production... it all seemed
to gel" -Sir Donald Bradman.
"In an over I can bowl six different balls. But then Sachin looks at me
with a sort of gentle arrogance down the pitch as if to say 'Can you bowl
me another one?'" - Adam Hollioke
Sachin is cricket's God? Barry Richards.
You might pitch a ball on the off stump and think you have bowled a good
ball and he walks across and hits it for two behind midwicket. His bat
looks so heavy but he just waves it arounad like it's a toothpick? -Brett Lee
You have to decide for yourself whether you're bowling well or not. He's
going to hit you for fours and sixes anyway? -Micheal Kasprowicz
Technically, you can't fault Sachin. Seam or spin, fast or slow ? nothing
is a problem? -Geoffrey Boycott.
His life seems to be a stillness in a frantic world... [When he goes out
to bat], it is beyond chaos - it is a frantic appeal by a nation to one
man. The people see him as a God... ? Mathew Hayden, on Sachin Tendulkar.
I (Embarrassed laugh) am a normal person who plays cricket. I am nothing
more than that? - Sachin Tendulkar, on being told of above quote.
"The fact of the matter is that India still need Sachin in a big way. All
this talk of the youngsters taking over is very foolish. The reason why
Tendulkar is so important for the team is because of his ability to
inspire others and make them perform under pressure" - Some day on "Times of India".
Cricket is the religion and sachin is the God
Team India without Sachin is like Temple without God.
And, this is the best!!! (A True fan of Sachin carried this Banner in a test match at Sydney..)
"Commit all your crimes when Sachin is batting. They will go unnoticed because
even the Lord will be gone to watch him bat!!!."

Trip to Theni
Last week i went for one of my friends House warming ceremony. The house was in a village located around 10 Kms from the heart of Theni. Theni is a place situated 80 Kms from Madurai and it is a beautiful place under the slopes of western ghats. Lodging has been arranged at RadhaKrishna Lodge located less than 1km from Theni on the way to Cumbam from Theni.
We got ready and set for the celebations in the village. We enjoyed the village and came back to the Lodge by 4:00 pm,then we had some rest. when we started to chennai we had dinner in a platform kind of hotel [usually called as night stall]. The night stall is located just in front of the Lodge we stayed. I didn't expect such a response from the guys at the hotel. They were affectionate and served the dinner with kindness. We 4 guys had the dinner there. We had Parotta, idly, dosa and kothu parotta. Parotta with the given gravy was awesome. we ordered for some oneside omblets. It was excellent. Then we ordered for a chicken, i was took aback with the taste of the chicken they gave to us.
As it is a very small hotel the pricing was very less. We had a good heavy dinner at theni and the dinner was really amazing. So if you have a chance to go there don't miss it.Then we returned from Theni to Chennai.

Tips & Tricks in Google talk (gtalk)
I am very happy to share something about the google's IM Client (Gtalk) . I like chatting in gtalk as it is thin in appearance and it runs in less system resources. The grouping of the Chat sessions is really cool with the option to change the focus. And the status of showing the Current Playing music track (Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes) is awesome. The search & add contact if not found on enter is usability at rich. Having mail as a place to store chat History is a good move. One can send messages of 32767 characters long.
Smileys are recognized by Google Talk and will be shown in blue.
Please have a look into the Keyboard Short cuts.
- F9: Open Gmail to send an email to your friend
- F11: Start a call with your friend
- F12: Stop the current call
- ESC: Close the current window
- ALT + ESC: Minimize the current window
- TAB: Switch between multiple chat windows
- CTRL + I: Same as TAB
- SHIFT + TAB: Same as TAB but in reverse order
- CTRL + TAB: Same as SHIFT + TAB
- Windows + ESC: Open Google Talk (if it's minimized, or in the tray)
Some Additional Info :
- To write text in bold, put it between *bold*
- To write text in italic, put it between _italic_
- Drag a conversation window on top of another and they will dock together it the combined height is more than the scree height
- File Transfer with drag & drop just rocks
- When you see a message notification, you can right click it to close it without focusing the conversation window.
- You can right click on a contact and set his/her picture as your picture
- You can rename contacts in your list in one click
Secret Startup Parameters
- /nomutex: allows you to open more than one instance of Google Talk
- /autostart: when Google Talk is run with this parameter, it will check the registry settings to see if it needs to be started or not. If the "Start automatically with Windows" option is unchecked, it won't start.
- /forcestart: same as /autostart, but forces it to start no matter what option was set.
- /S upgrade: Used when upgrading Google Talk
- /register: registers Google Talk in the registry, includig the GMail Compose method.
- /checkupdate: check for newer versions
- /plaintextauth: uses plain authentication mechanism instead then Google's GAIA mechanism. Used for testing the plain method on Google's servers.
- /nogaiaauth: disables GAIA authentication method. The same as above.
- /factoryreset: set settings back to default.
- /gaiaserver servername.com: uses a different GAIA server to connect to Google Talk. Used for debug purposes only, there are no other known GAIA servers.
- /mailto email@host.com: send an email with Gmail
- /diag: start Google Talk in diagnostic mode
- /log: probably has something to do with the diagnostic logging
Scope for improvement:
The current integration of gtalk with orkut doesn't seems that good. One should be able to scrap in his/her friends scrapbook as he/she sends an IM to a friend. The scrap notification doesn't seems to works to google's standards either. Twitter integration with gtalk is good, here too the follow functionality seems to have some issues.

Hotels @ Velachery,Chennai
Just want to share some info about the Hotels in Velachery.
1. Nalas Appa Kadai Non-Veg (8/10)
Wonderful place to dine. Reasonable price. The only thing is you have to plan a bit early if you would like to have your dinner there :-(, its that crowded. Appam, with coconut milk is the highlight of appa kadai. Located just opposite to VijayaNagar Bus stand
2. Nawaz Dharbar Non-Veg(8/10)
Formerly known by bhai kadai. You can get really good Mutton Briyani. You can't get better Briyani anywhere in Velechery. The thing to be noted here is the quality of Briyani seems to get worse when the shop moved from ViayaNagar Bus Stand to the 100 ft Road. Reasonable price and worth for money.
3. MCV Non-Veg (8/10)
Minerva Chetinad Restaurant Located in the Velachery-Tambaram highway just arround 300 meters from VijayaNagar Bus Terminus. Its really worth having chetinad food there. The highlight of mcv is vangram meen kulambu & viral meen kulambu. I love having Neethili fry in mcv. You can also get good rottis, Naans and other Tandoori dishes. I am not aware of the Vegetarian food here. Reasonable price. Worth for money. Minerva will be safe till Anjappar opens a branch in Velachery.
4. Kumarakom Non-Veg (7/10)
Located aside of Velechery-Tambaram highway Nathella sambathu Chetty. You can feel the real taste of Kerala there. Price is a bit costly. Mallus you can have fun dining there.
5. Karaikudi Non-Veg (6/10)
Too costly and not worth for money. You will feel good at karaikudi till you get your bills. Located at Velachery-Taramani Highway , less than 1 km from VijayaNagar Busstand.
Other than the above you have Milan just opposite to VijayaNagar Bus stand. One can have food once in a month or so. Snow park is also a place to visit, you can get good dishes, deserts. The problem here is, it is heavily crowed thanks to TCS. Food fiesta just below Snow Park worth for money and for tandoori items.
